ABOUT US
Evolution Dance Company is a dance studio located in Selkirk Manitoba, that offers quality instruction in a fun and encouraging setting. EDC is committed to providing high-quality dance education to enhance the overall development of the dancer. We provide a safe and child-centred environment to encourage our students to explore dance with qualified, nurturing instructors. We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image as they increase awareness of their physical being. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement. Directors Sonja Brown and Andrea Myers have over 35 years combined teaching and choreography experience. Both have won numerous awards at the local and international level. Andrea and Sonja, along with Evolution's dynamic faculty will ensure every dancer has the best possible dance training and experience at Evolution!
OUR PROGRAMS
Recreational Program
We take pride in offering a professional, fun and well-rounded recreational program for our students. From ages 2 to 102, we have a class for you! Our single age-specific classes for ages 2 to 5, ensure that students are receiving training specific to their developmental needs and are training with other children at the same level. Beginning at age 5, students may begin to select multiple classes and build a schedule for themselves based on their interests. All recreational students perform at our professional, sold out recital at the Centennial Concert Hall in May!
Competitive Program
Evolution Dance Company offers a competitive dance program that is second to none. The competitive program allows students to experience the full range of dance with courses designed to complement one another. Competitive dance teams are formed based on a combination of age and skill level. There are minimum requirements for the classes that competitive students take. Competitive students typically dance 5-10 hours a week. Additional classes are often scheduled for competitive teams prior to major competitions. Students wishing to participate in the competitive program must audition. Students transferring from other studios may be exempt from auditions but will be asked to provide a brief dance resume and a copy of a recent recital video. All competitive teams perform at the year-end recital. Additionally, competitive teams may be entered into the Manitoba Dance Festival, Canadian National Championships, View Dance Challenge and at other dance competitions and conventions that occur throughout the year.
